A community rooted in ancient faith, serving with love, preserving the traditions of Tewahedo Orthodoxy.
Welcome to Debre Tsion St. Mary, an Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo parish that stands as a beacon of ancient faith in our modern world. Our church family embraces the rich liturgical traditions, theological depth, and spiritual practices preserved for nearly two millennia, nurturing souls through the Divine Liturgy, fostering community fellowship, and serving those in need with the love of Christ.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church traces its roots to the apostolic era, when the Ethiopian eunuch was baptized by Philip the Evangelist. Our parish, Debre Tsion St. Mary, was established to serve the Tewahedo Orthodox community in Sydney and to preserve our sacred traditions.
Named after the sacred mountain of Zion and dedicated to St. Mary, Mother of God, our church represents the deep connection between earthly worship and heavenly glory. We maintain the ancient liturgical calendar, celebrate the traditional feasts, and practice the mystical theology that has characterized Tewahedo Orthodoxy for centuries.
